Tasting Notes For Green Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Nose: Fresh aromatic oils with orchard fruits and barley on a background honeyed vanilla and toasted wood.

Taste: Wonderfully sticky and covers the entire mouth with flavour. Full bodied and spicy with a hint of cloves with fresh green apples, and a wonderful honey which tempering toasted oak.

Finish: Due to the stickiness, the finish for this clings to the tongue instead of moving to the back of the throat. Long and lingering with pot still spices and barley.

  • Anyone who knows anything about world whiskeys should definitely have heard of Green Spot. Described by Jim Murray (of Whisky Bible fame) as "One of the World's Most Iconic Whiskey Brands", Green Spot really deserves it's place on the top shelf, but for some reason fans of Pot Still whiskey hadn’t heard of this whiskey. Green Spot has always been out there though….only it was notoriously hard to get hold of.

These days as the world is coming to realise the great qualities of Single Pot Still Whiskey, it’s becoming easier to find, and most bars and restaurants in Ireland will have this on request. We're delighted to offer it to the Singapore public as a great example of the quintessential style of Single Pot Still Whiskey which comes only from Ireland, and is definitely a style that all whiskey lovers should try at some point. Green Spot is comprised of Single Pot Still Whiskeys aged between 7 and 10 years in a combination of new fill bourbon, re-fill bourbon and sherry casks.

  • Green Spot is a single pot still Irish whiskey, produced specifically for Mitchell & Son of Dublin, by Irish Distillers at the Middlteon distillery in Co. Cork. It is one of the few remaining bonded Irish whiskeys, and is currently the only brand specifically produced for and sold by an independent wine merchant in Ireland.Mitchell & Son wine merchants were established in 1805; however, it is uncertain exactly when Green Spot was first produced. It is known though, that by the 1920s Mitchell & Son were sending their empty barrels to Jameson’s Bow Street Distillery to be filled with whiskey, and Jameson in turn were supplying them with at least 200 Sherry barrells of pot still distilled whiskey per annum. The Mitchells sold a range of whiskeys under their ‘Spot’ brand name. This name originated from their practice of marking casks of different ages with a daub or spot of coloured paint. There was a Blue Spot, Red Spot and Yellow Spot, but Green Spot emerged as their most popular whiskey. The Spot brand is one of the few “whiskey bonder brands” to survive to modern day.
