Tasting Notes for Panama 2011 TCRL

Nose: An aromatic palette carried by vanilla, fresh pastry and exotic woody notes which harmoniously match with dried fruits.

Taste: Citrus fruits, apricots and dried fruits complemented by a hint of sugar and oak.

Finish: A pleasantly warming undertone of spices and wood.

  • Panama 2011 Trans-Continental Rum Line is brought to us by our good friends over at La Maison Du Whisky. It's a limited edition of 1300 bottles from an unnamed (ahem...Ron Abuelo) Panama distillery. High quality molasses has been slowly fermented then distilled in a traditional column still before being aged for 6 years in an ex-bourbon cask. When the 6 year maturation in Panama was completed, the cask was then transported to France, replicating the same journey which would have been made in times of yore. The rum was matured for a further year on arrival in France before being bottled.

The line inspired by the rich history of the transatlantic crossings of rum casks, the transcontinental rum line range aims to highlight the typicity and diversity of the world’s best provenances for rum. Selected by the expert team at la maison du whisky, these bottlings offer consumers great transparency in order the let the genuine quality of the rums shine. All the details concerning the distillation and aging of the products are clearly stated on the labels, making them great educational tools. With over 40 references coming from 12 different countries, the transcontinental rum line range has become a reference in terms of diversity and accessibility.

  • Launched in 2016, 'Transcontinental Rum Line' is brought to us by the French retailer, LMDW (La Maison du Whisky) and aimed at seducing lovers of high-end rum. The colourful packaging is inspired by rum trader's trips between the New World and the Old Continent. Evaporation rates were found to be lower when barrels were matured en route, rather than in the hot Caribbean climate, hence the trips were considered to have an economic advantage.

Similarly, LMDW's bottlings are first aged first in a tropical climate for a number of years then for up to 12 months in Europe where the cooler conditions slow the maturation process. This edition is brought to us from the well regarded Ron Abuelo distillery in Panama and comes in at 43%.
