Tasting Notes for Aerolite Lyndsay 10 Year Old Single Malt

Nose: Lots of maritime peat, with notes of iodine intertwined with honey sweetness, paprika, salted caramel and old bookshelves.

Palate: Smoke returns alongside mint dark chocolate, espresso and new leather, with honey and soy sauce mixed together.

Finish: Boiled mint sweets, Liquorice Allsorts, bonfire smoke and toffee penny, with a pinch of salt.

  • Aerolite Lyndsay, the first release from The Character of Islay Whisky Company, is a ten-year-old peated single malt from an undisclosed distillery from the famed whisky isle of Islay.

Head of whisky for The Character of Islay Whisky Company, Dr. Sam Simmons, has created this dram by resting it in a carefully curated selection of casks which include 70% bourbon casks, 25% in Spanish oak sherry quarter casks, and 5% 'mystery' casks. The flavour imparted from this maturation journey provides an appealing complexity to this already characterful drop.

Bottled at 46% abv, without any colour additions and non-chill filtered, it's an approachable option if you’re new to whisky as it showcases the Hebridean island’s finest export, while if you’re a connoisseur, it offers you a session-able, mixable treat.

So, what’s in a name you may ask, and why is this whisky called Aerolite Lyndsay? Turns out that Aerolite Lyndsay is anagram of the contents – Ten Year Old Islay. Nifty.

  • The Character of Islay Whisky Company is an independent bottler with an ambition to create peat-forward whiskies, informed in some way by Islay’s stories and legends. They can’t create expressions that are rooted in the identity of a distillery - they simply don’t have one. Instead, they take their inspiration from the island itself, its culture, its natural environment and of course, people, because this is often where the best stories come from.
