Tasting Notes for Del Professore Gin À La Madame
Del Professore Gin Madame offers all the traditional juniper and citrus flavours with additional layers of floral notes and sweet spices. Compared to Gin Monsieur, it is slightly more delicate and sweeter. A harmonious blend of juniper, orange zest, lemon, cinnamon, nutmeg, medicinal and herbal notes with a hint of rosewater and vanilla.

Del Professore Gin Madame is characterized by the exclusive use of Tuscan and Umbrian wild juniper, which is macerated together with various herbs, spices, citrus fruits plus a secret ingredient. The result is a gin with an incredible aroma, with notes of vanilla and cinnamon combined with the more spicy ones, along with notes of honey and ripe peaches. On the palate it is a warm but balsamic gin, with a resinous finish complemented by floral notes.
The two Gins of the Professor (Monsieur and Madame) are distilled with the "bathtub" method and were created by Carlo Quaglia, a well-known Piedmontese distiller, and by the boys of the " Jerry Thomas Speakeasy " in Rome, eager to rediscover the methods of distillation of the times of Prohibition. After the infusion, the gin is filtered extremely delicately in order not to lose any of the intense aromas gained from natural infusion, and this is why it retains its natural amber colour. -
The Jerry Thomas Project produce two types of Gin del Professore, the Monsieur, with a more classic gin profile of juniper and citrus, and the Madame, with an extra layer of sweeter spiced aromas of cinnamon, vanilla and wild rose. Both gins represent the rediscovery of a lost style of gin production: the making of the ‘Bathtub Gin’. These were gins produced illegally during the American Prohibition, either at home, at Speakeasies or in distilleries. The gins were often fairly poor quality, so the Jerry Thomas producers wanted to bring the concept of the Bathtub Gin back into being, but to a very high quality, using artisanal methods and high quality ingredients. Retracing the same techniques they use for their vermouth, the creation of the gin starts with blending a juniper distillate into an infusion of herbs and spices with the aim of obtaining a deep complexity of aromas. Neither gins are industrially filtered and therefore they maintain their original amber colour gained from the spice infusion.
